Mr Tremblay,
We, the undersigned,
greatly appreciate how SIM gave an opinion on the (then) proposed traffic
barrier at the intersection of Broughton/des Erables on August 18, 2010. We are
also disappointed at how the Town of Montreal West reacted to this opinion. That
barrier was erected by Montreal West in October, 2010, despite the dangers
posed to Lachine residents and to firefighters.
Just over
one year has passed since the Broughton/des Erables barrier was erected. In an
effort to steer political debate in the right direction, we are hoping that
your department can now re-evaluate the situation, looking again at the points
raised in 2010, especially in light of any incidents that have occurred over
past year. And we respectfully request that your department also consider how
public safety has been affected for residents in Montreal West and for students
at Royal West Academy as a result of said barrier being constructed.
We also
hope that your department is able to anticipate emergency service delivery to
and from the Hillcrest/Rosewood/Mount Vernon neighbourhood of Lachine in
different types of weather. Most
particularly, we are concerned about how the barrier affects snow removal in
our neighbourhood and that in turn greatly impacts SIM vehicles travelling to
and from this sector.
Finally, we
want to draw your attention to the frequent AMT train traffic at the
Westminster and Elmhurst Street train crossings and to the delays this could
cause with emergency response times. We would appreciate your opinion on how
the combination of this train traffic and the Broughton/des Erables barrier
affects response times for the 1,000 residents in the Hillcrest and Pominville
neighbourhoods of the former Ville St. Pierre.
Thank you
for your consideration.
