Needless to say, we were all aghast when we received this notice from Mo'West Town Hall. After years of telling us that we're not welcome on their streets, this!!??
Apparently, the cupboards are bare in Mo'West. I've been told that enrollment in their Community Programs etc. is way down and the cash just isn't flowing in like it used to. Whatever the Fiscal situation is over there, decades of acrimonious debate on The Barricade issue have left many HRMV residents with a bitter taste in their mouth and, as a result, have little or no desire to spend their money within that hallowed community. Although some still partake in activities over there, many have found that Lachine's facilities and services are far superior and are much happier since making the switch.
The level of rejection HRMV feels has even caused quite a few to stop shopping at Westminster Ave. businesses which is a shame since those business owners are opposed to The Barricade realizing that we bring in a considerable amount of their daily sales. Sadly, those business people cannot openly express their opposition for fear of reprisal from good ol' Mo'Wester clientele. The potential for intimidation and social ostracization within that town keeps everyone lined up like ducks at a shooting gallery.
Be that as it may, who was the genius over there who suggested this idea? Or was it the collective genius of the Council that dragged out this dusty plastic Olive Branch? One word came to mind when this garbage was found in my mail-box: HUBRIS. If it wasn't so pathetic it would be comical but, any way you read it, it's simply insulting.
