"Sorry, we don't deliver there."

Last night we placed an order by phone with Le Gout de L'Inde (A Taste of India) restaurant on Monkland, a great place we've ordered from in the past. After we gave the order and got the total, the resto owner asked me to remind him how to get to our place. When I told him of the barrier, he said "Oh yes, I know of it. I'm sorry. We no longer deliver there. It's too hard to get there." I tried to describe the directions but although he apologized, he said he could no longer deliver to us. When I suggested the driver park on Easton and walk one block, he said it would take too long. Note that before the barrier they delivered to our street. So we ended up driving over there and getting it and bringing it home. I think we will bring an invoice to Montreal West's town hall meeting for the amount of extra gas this is causing us! And soo Montreal West has created a situation where our neighbourhood becomes 'untouchable' and 'undeliverable' - an irony when dealing with a restaurant with a culture steeped in the caste system. Kind of like our neighbourhood is becoming, it seems...

This is a fine example of the side effects that, I believe, we're going to be running into living behind the barricade. In context, it may appear to be a minor inconvenience but minor can modulate to major in a heartbeat. Truncated lives, indeed.
